Innovation is crucial in rail

Innovation is crucial to achieving our ambitious modal shift goal. We have to reinvent the rail industry in order to be able to compete with road transport. B Logistics is working to that end on several fronts:
For our customers, we are making working with rail much more accessible. Customers can look up possible routes, transit and departure times themselves for their transport. They will soon be able to book their wagons as well. But we want to go much further. The customer experience for transporting your goods by rail must become as easy as if you were buying a train ticket for yourself.

All sorts of innovations are implemented to make our (operational) processes safer and more efficient. We have massive amounts of data from various sources: information from the locomotives, experience from train drivers, data from our customers, schedules of all means of transport… We aspire to centralise all this in one cockpit. If we pool and link all this information, we can anticipate the needs of our customers more attentively and organise ourselves better.

We also want to become even stronger as an organisation. We are working on an e-learning platform, a sort of ecosystem in which we collect all knowledge. We then process that knowledge into customised training modules, so that all employees can ultimately have an individual coach to enable them to do their job even better.

In addition to our people, locomotives and wagons are our most important capital. The entire industry more or less works with assets that are 20 to 30 years old. Most goods wagons that are put on rail today are only that: a mobile recipient for transporting goods. Equipped with sensors, they can become an invaluable source of information. They can then provide data that can be used to draw up the maintenance plan, proceed to tracking and tracing at any time, provide information to customers, etc.

These are just some of the many projects that B Logistics is developing at this time. Want to see more? Have look at our movie.

We have the experts in house who do that themselves, but we are really keen to expand the boundaries of rail transport. That is why we firmly believe that we can be stronger when we cooperate with specialists from other sectors. We like to be inspired by and draw on the experiences of start-ups or pioneers from other sectors. That is why we are constantly in search of people who want to support us in such endeavours. Could that be something for you? Check out our vacancies or contact us!
