Lineas and Ciments Calcia launch Rombas-Chelles rail link

07 December 2018

In order to free up storage capacity and reduce congestion on the roads around Gennevilliers, Ciments Calcia, the cement manufacturing specialist, is joining forces with Lineas to launch a rail link to carry bulk cement from the Chelles Distribution Centre.

This is a first! There had been no rail freight services at Chelles for 15 years. But now, from November 2018, a train will be setting out from Rombas for Chelles once a week. It will be hauling 24 wagons.

Olivier Deprez, the Managing Director of Lineas France, says: “Our partnership is a good example of the way we look into clients’ specific problems and help them develop solutions made to measure.  The return of trains to Chelles will enable Ciments Calcia to increase their storage capacity in the Ile de France and meet the growing needs of their customers’ building sites in the Greater Paris area. In addition, our flexible, customer-friendly service will contribute to keeping down the number of lorries on the roads.”

The launching of new services like Rombas-Chelles is part of Lineas's ambition of to realise the modal shift in Europe, convincing companies to shift their goods transport from road to rail, in order to solve congestion problems and provide a more environmentally-friendly means of transport.
